Charles Henry SPILLANE

SPILLANE, Charles Henry - Age 89, life-long resident of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral service will be held 11AM Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Pastor LuAnn Rourke officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation from 2-4 and 6-8PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to I.L.O.F. or Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. Spillane was born June 21, 1919 in Mundy Township, the son of George E. and Mabel L. (Seaver) Spillane. Charles graduated from Mary Crapo High School in 1937 and from Flint Junior College in 1939. From 1942 until 1944 he served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal. He married Elizabeth Belle Miller on November 23, 1940 in Flint, MI. Charles owned G.E. Spillane & Son Family Hardware in Swartz Creek from 1939 to 1962. He was employed by GM for 25 years in Plant Security and worked in the Computer Room, retiring in 1983. Mr. Spillane was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, served on the Gaines Township Board, Planning Commission and Board of Appeals for 40 years. He had been a charter member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Club and a member of the Swartz Creek Band Boosters Club. Surviving are: wife, Elizabeth Belle Spillane; daughters, Patricia Elizabeth Burk and husband Lary of Swartz Creek, Pamela Elizabeth Vredevoogd and husband William of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Christina Sharp and husband James of Kalamazoo, James Burk of Swartz Creek, Mary Kathryn Turner and husband Ryan of Grand Blanc, Bradley Vredevoogd of Holland; great-grandchildren, James Charles Sharp and Sarah Elizabeth Sharp, both of Kalamazoo, Grace Rebekah Turner and Sophie Isabelle Turner, both of Grand Blanc.
