Charles Smith Jr.

Charles E. Smith Jr., age 80, passed away on January 20, 2018 at Mclaren Regional Hospital. Charles is survived by his four daughters: Leona Smith, Patricia Lewis (Scott Lewis), Cecila Smith, and Rhonda Eads. His grandchildren: Lisa Walker, Duncan Walker, Ronnald Wells-Smith, Bailey Lewis, and Kayla Eads. Charles was born on December 9, 1937 in Winthrop, MA. In 1955, he joined the US Navy and retired in 1974 as an E6 Engineman, First Class. Prior to that, he served two years in the US National Guard. While in the Navy, he served in the Vietnam War. In 1968, he married Barbara J. Barrows and went on to have four children together. In 1977, he began employment at General Motors, retiring in 1990. Charles was an avid master modeler of WWII ships and dioramas. He has a room dedicated to his work at the Frankenmuth Military and Space Museum. Charles was best known for his love of his family, WWII history, and his cats. He will be greatly and dearly missed.
