SANDFORD, Charles Lee - age 84, of Gaines, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 At Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd. Swartz Creek. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held 2:00-8:00p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Legion or Swartz Creek V.F.W. Charles was born October 29, 1926 in Chapin Township, MI, the son of Hugh and Doris (Crane) Sandford. He married Ethel Mae Wykes on April 26, 1952 in Swartz Creek. Mr. Sandford attended Dye High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1945-1946, was a member of the V.F.W. (Chaplain for 11 years) and American Legion Posts of Swartz Creek. Charles retired from General Motors (Buick) in 1978 after 33 years of service and continued to farm before and after retirement. He was proud of his family heritage and enjoyed sharing the history with his family. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR races, old cars, and the many dogs and horses he had over the years. Surviving are: wife, Ethel M. Sandford of Gaines; three sons, Ned (Patricia) Sandford of Gaines, Dan (Theresa) Sandford of Lennon, and David (Maria) Sandford of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Jay (Lynsay) Sandford of Swartz Creek, Julie Sandford of Gaines and Austin Sandford of Austin, TX; one great grandchild, Evan Sandford of Swartz Creek; sister, Dorothy Vanzo (Arnie) and family of Swartz Creek; brother-in-law Gilbert Wykes (Pat) and family; and many loving relatives, friends and neighbors.
