McCORMICK, Charles O. - age 86, of Flint and Linden, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, October 12, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad Street, Linden, with Pastor Hal Phillips officiating. Burial immediately following at Fairview Cemetery, Linden, with an Honor Guard Service, provided by VFW Post#3243 of Fenton. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Saturday, 1-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday and from 12 noon until the time of service Monday. Those desiring may make contributions to the South Mundy United Methodist Church, 10018 S. Linden Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439 or the Alzheimers Assn., 4604 N. Saginaw Rd., Ste. F, Midland, MI 48640. "Chuck" was born March 12, 1923, to the late Samuel A. and Gertrude (Wagner) McCormick, on the family farm in Richfield Twp. On March 30, 1946, he married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara J. Sargent, in Flint. Chuck served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed overseas for three years with the Chemical Warfare Unit, serving in North Africa, Germany and Italy, and received several medals of honor, including the Purple Heart. He proudly retold the stories of his Company's advancements in front of the Troops. He was a Life Member of the VFW #3243 of Fenton. After Chuck returned to the states and married, he established "McCormick Trucking", working until his retirement in 1988. Chuck will be remembered for his devotion to his family, by whom he will be greatly missed, and also for his dedication to many long hours in his trucking business. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 63 years, Barbara, and their two children and spouses, Cheryl (McCormick) and Arnold Berry of Linden, Charles and Deborah (Richard) McCormick of Grand Blanc; six grandchildren, Trisha Berry Curtis, Leah (Fick) and Jason McCollum, Marcus Fick, Jeremy, Justin and James McCormick, and four great grandchildren, Takoma, Maisie, Kirstie and Paige. He is also survived by his brother, Samuel McCormick, two sisters-in-law, Marjorie McCormick and Peggie Kirchner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia R. Fick, his parents, parents-in-law, and several siblings. The McCormick family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Russell DiPonio and Brenda, from Visiting Physicians, for their faithful visits to Chuck for the past three years, to the dedicated and loving care received from Ella, and Denise from Pinnacle Home Health Care, and Maggie, Sue, and Kathie from Grace Hospice, as well as Annette, his private care giver.
