KULINEC, Charles Francis Sr. - Age 94, of Flint, formerly of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, January 01, 2012 at Avalon Hospice surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Fr. Daniel Kogut celebrant. Visitation will be held 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, and from 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Swartz Creek Food Pantry Ministry or the St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund. Mr. Kulinec was born in Swartz Creek on July 19, 1917, the son of Andrew and Mary (Sejak) Kulinec. He was a 1934 graduate of Mary Crapo High School and continued his education, taking classes at General Motors Institute. Mr. Kulinec married Josephine A. Justynski on November 16, 1940. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2009. He worked for AC Spark Plug Division in Flint from 1940 until his retirement in 1981, with time off to serve his country as a Staff Sergeant at Camp Crowder, Missouri from 1945 to 1946. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and loved history and staying up to date on current events. Mr. Kulinec was a member of Spring Meadows Country Club for 35 years and took great delight in teaching all of his grandchildren to play golf. Mr. Kulinec was proud of his Czech heritage. He and Jo took many trips to the Czech Republic and Slovakia to visit with family there. They also enjoyed attending many Czech functions in Dearborn, Wyandotte, Owosso, Bannister, and Straznice, Czech Republic. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo (Jerry) Regan of Swartz Creek and Kathy (Michael) Niergarth of Grand Haven; daughter-in-law Sharon Kulinec of Surprise AZ; seven grandchildren, Gary (Michelle) Kulinec, Patrick (Monica) Regan, Lynn Marie (Andy) Fabbo, Brian Regan, Ryan (Melissa) Kulinec, Jacob (Katie) Niergarth, and Benjamin Niergarth; four great-grandchildren, Abby, Charles, and Jacob Kulinec, and Fiona Marie Regan; three sisters, Beatrice Halstead of Grand Blanc, Margaret Baetz of Dearborn, and Mary Ellen Wheeler of Flint; sisters-in-law Amelia (Bill) Cimbalik and Mary Ann (Miles) Miller of Swartz Creek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles F. Kulinec Jr., great-granddaughter Alena Kulinec, and sisters Agnes Supol and Mildred Cole.
