STACKPOLE, Cecil Thomas  Age 72, of Oscoda, formerly of Swartz Creek, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at his residence. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, August 4, 2003 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Amos Wischmeyer celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Mary Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Veterans Honors will be performed under the auspices of Swartz Creek VFW/AmVets Post # 3720. Visitation will be from 6-9 PM Saturday and 2-4 and 6-9 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have remembrances of Cese sent to St. Joseph Home Health and Hospice, Tawas, MI or the Alzheimers Association. Mr. Stackpole was born August 4, 1930 in Lincoln Park, MI, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Larkin) Stackpole. He married Jean Ann Schuon on June 26, 1954 in Carleton, MI. Mr. Stackpole was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Eastern Michigan University, a Masters Degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and he completed PhD course work at Michigan State University. Mr. Stackpole was a professor at G.M.I. (now Kettering University) for 35 years, retiring in 1995, where he was twice given the Distinguished Teacher Award. Prior to working at G.M.I., he was the Chairman of the Community Department at Port Huron College, Port Huron, MI. He had resided in Oscoda the last eight years coming from Swartz Creek, where he had lived for 35 years. Mr. Stackpole played professional baseball in the St. Louis Browns organization in the American League. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Beagles Club. He enjoyed running, beagle dogs, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Surviving are: wife, Jean of Oscoda; four children, Peter Thomas and wife, Luann Stackpole of Perry, Connie Jean and husband, Dan Doolan of Burton, Kelly Ann and husband, Greg Bock of Blissfield, MI, David Michael and wife, Debbie Stackpole of Kent City, MI; seven grandchildren, Katie, Adam, Dani, Tony, Breanna, twins, Dylan and Devin; four sisters, Claire and husband, Bob Cronan, Shirley and husband, Dick Bruck, all of Jackson, Gail and husband, John Miles of Farmington, NM, Joyce and husband, Phil Pierce of Maylene, AL; sister-in-law, Sally Stackpole of Trenton.
