SHEPARD, Cecil L. -- Age 88 of Durand, died November, 4, 2014 at McLaren- Flint. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, November 7, 2014 at Gaines United Methodist Church, 117 Clinton St., Gaines with Pastor Eric Johnson officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be held 1-3 and 5-9 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Cecil was born August 3, 1926 in Gaines the son of Dewey and Nellie (VanAuken) Shepard. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1944 - 1946. He married Donna Boring on December 8, 1945 in Gaines, she preceded him in death on April 18, 1993. He worked for GM for 35 years retiring in 1992. Cecil lived in the Gaines/Durand area his entire life and was a member of the Gaines United Methodist Church and sexton of Oakwood Cemetery in Gaines for many years. Surviving are: two children, DeeAnna Moticka of Durand, Douglas (Peggy) Shepard of Bancroft; daughter-in-law, Gladys Shepard of OK; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Duane (Betty) Shepard of Durand; Lawrence Shepard of FL. He was also preceded in death by: two sons, Richard and John Shepard; granddaughter, Cathrine; sister, Donna Witt.
