Catherine Susan Moeller

April 30, 1943 — May 24, 2024

Lake Wales, Florida

Catherine Susan Moeller, 81, of Lake Wales, Florida danced through the gates of heaven on May 24, 2024 surrounded by family. She leaves behind a life that was well lived, and well loved. Catherine was born on April 30, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Andrew and Nina (Lukity) O’Neal. She was the only daughter with three brothers, Gerald, George, and Ronald. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic schools and Dearborn High.
On November 24, 1960 she married her soulmate, Douglas Roy Moeller. They spent over 63 years together. As they walked through the peaks and valleys of life together, they never wavered in their commitment to each other, always putting family first. They had 6 children, and raised their young family in Dearborn, Michigan before moving to a farm in Barryton, Michigan. Eventually they retired to a lake house on Crooked Lake in Lake, Michigan and later in Florida, where they spent their winters during retirement.
Her love for her family was deep. It’s hard to imagine that someone can carry so much love in their heart. Her 16 grandchildren felt it. “Grandma” was her proudest title. She made each grandchild feel special by telling them they were her favorite. She was so proud to be Grandma and Grandma-Great.
She lived for the summer weekends at the cottage on Crooked Lake. Campers and tents everywhere in the yard, sleeping bags, no room to walk, not a quiet moment all weekend and food for an army. She thrived in the beautiful chaos of a big family. She was the creator of countless beautiful memories for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The loss of her oldest child Marie, and youngest grandchild, Evan Moeller, left big holes in her heart.
In addition to a big family, Cathy had many special friends, referring to some as her sister she never had. People loved her because her zest for life was contagious. She always wanted the best for everyone. She wanted people to live big, enjoy big adventures and eat good food. Cathy also enjoyed big adventures of her own. She loved to travel and was able to visit every state and several countries. Cathy was smart, empathetic, and incredibly kind. She loved to cook and entertain. She was always in the kitchen and a great party planner, even planning her own celebration of life. Cathy was always eager to get people together and feed them well. She made the best crepes and the tastiest pies. She loved having people around, but she also found solace in a quiet day, watching Hallmark movies, and the Golden Girls while in her pajamas all day.
Catherine is survived by her husband Douglas, children, Wendy (John) Bicknell, Deborah (Donald) Perry, Michael (Margie) Moeller, Carl Moeller, and Marcia (Al) Verscheure, one brother George (Pat) O’Neal and sister-in-law Paige O’Neal. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, friends and other family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nina and Andrew, her daughter, Marie, brothers, Gerald, and Ronald and her grandson, Evan.
