PURDY, Casey Elizabeth - Age 40, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, September 5, 2021. In accordance with Casey's wishes cremation will take place. A celebration of life will begin 6:30 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Flushing Valley Country Club, 1124 E Main St, Flushing. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek.
Casey was born on May 14, 1981 in Flint the daughter of Jim and Jody (Sass) Purdy. She graduated from Swartz Creek High School, class of 1999. Casey received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, Flint. She taught special education and kindergarten for many years with the Flint Community Schools. Casey also worked for the Whiting and Capitol Theater in Flint. She had a heart of gold who loved her students and teaching. Casey always loved to make sure her family knew she was the middle child. She enjoyed gardening and her adventures like whitewater rafting, zip lining and skydiving.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and Jody Purdy; sisters, Tara (Eric) Busch and Hayley Purdy and her fiancé, Zach Smithingell; several aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends, her two kitty's, Snow and Lenny, and most importantly the students she taught.
Casey was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joan and Ned Purdy and Mary and Morris Sorkin; and cousin, Tracey Hellinger.
Casey was a compassionate, caring and loving teacher whose generosity was remarkable. We have decided as a family that we will continue to honor her legacy by providing backpacks, school supplies, Halloween costumes, coats and miscellaneous items to her students scholars and other underprivileged children. Anyone wishing to assist us in this effort can place their monetary donation in her memory by helping us fill an empty backpack at her celebration of life or send a check to Jody Purdy 1140 Morrish Rd., Flint, MI 48532 earmarked Casey’s kids and all the funds will be used to honor our Casey’s passion assisting those in need. We will forever be proud of her selfless efforts making sure every child was always prepared for school. This will help us heal our broken hearts as we continue her mission knowing how happy this would make her. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts.
