Carol Smith

SMITH, Carol J. - 87, of Flint, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 20, 2022.  A service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek.  Pastor Michael Diedrich officiating.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Those desiring may make contributions to Genesee County Humane Society.  Carol was born September 16, 1934 in Flint, the daughter of Harold K. and Mary M. (Mier) Smith.  She was a 1952 graduate of Flint Northern High School and had attended Flint Junior College. Carol joined United Airlines after college and it was there that her independent spirit truly flourished. She spent many years traveling the world with the airline and developed a passion for exploration and culture.  She retired from the airline in 1996. She resided in Los Angeles for much of her life but eventually moved back to Michigan over 25 years ago to be close to her family. Friends would describe Carol as generous, talkative and spirited. She brought liveliness wherever she went and her laughter was infectious. She was funny and animated and she brightened any room she was in. She was a member of New Creations Church of God in Flint and a former member of First Baptist Church in Huntington, CA.  Her time spent in church and her relationship with the Lord were extremely important to Carol. Carol was also an  avid animal lover, particularly dogs. No matter what else was going on, a photo of a dog would always bring a smile to her face. Surviving are: many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dolores Piper, Claribel Rak, and Brenda Becker; brothers, Carl and Gerald Smith.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfunerahomes.com.
