SHOUP, Carol Joy (Barker) - age 86 of Fenton, died February 6, 2023. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, February 10, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St. Fenton, MI 48430 with Rev. Fr. Robert Copeland celebrant. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430 where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. Visitation will also be held from 10 - 11 AM Friday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to The Medical Team Hospice. Carol was born on December 29, 1936, in Manistique, MI. She was the youngest daughter of William and Mae Barker. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales Catholic Elementary School in 1950 and Manistique High School in 1954. Following high school, she attended Great Lakes School of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN and graduated in 1955. She moved to Detroit where she met and married her husband, Frederick Shoup on February 23, 1957, at Epiphany Catholic Church. She retired from the Detroit Medical Center in 1999 after 27 years of employment with the office of Drs. Labes, Babaoff, Banooni, Esenberg, and Hakim where she was office manager for 20 years. She was also office manager of the office of Drs. Sherman and Goldrath for 4 years during that time period. Since retirement in 1999, Fred and Carol moved to Canadian Lakes where she had been active in the community and St. Michael's 6th Division Council of Catholic Women. She volunteered for funeral dinners, God's Kitchen and cleaned the church. Carol enjoyed playing Bridge, reading and puzzles. Surviving are: husband, Frederick Shoup; five children, Cheryl (Rick) Waldchen, Mark (Tonia) Shoup, Laurie Davis, Karen (Kenneth) Pilarski, and Connie Shoup; eight grandchildren, Zachary (Jeanine) Shoup, Savannah Waldchen (Noel Gingerich), Laura (Steve) Vincenzi, Matthew Pilarski, Lily Shoup (Thomas Westerkamp), Morgan (Steve) Aravas, Leah Carlson (John Plautz), and Drew Davis; great-grandchildren, Kevin, Alex, Addison, and Madisyn. She was preceded in death by: her parents; son-in-law, Donald Davis; and five siblings. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
