Carol A. Lacey, a very special lady, died April 8, 2006 of Corticalbasal Degeneration, a rare disease for which there is no known treatment or cure. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Carol, born June 17, 1927, in Saginaw, attended Holy Cross Lutheran Grade School. Â She graduated from Arthur Hill High School together with Wally Bronner and the busload of Frankenmuth students which Wally drove to Arthur Hill everyday. Â Carol went on to Alma College, where she graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Science. Carol was accepted into Saginaw General Hospitals training program in Medical Technology in 1949. Â Carol worked at Saginaw General and passed both her State Board and National Medical Technology Examinations in one day, an exceptional accomplishment. From 1950 to 1952, Carol worked in Saginaw Generals Pathology Department. Â June 21, 1952, she married Gerard Lacey, also a 1949 Alma College grad. Â Lacey was Sales and Space Allocation Director for Michigan State Fair, May 1952- May 1965. Â Carol claimed the all-time Fair record for making and selling cotton candy, when, in one 12 hour day, she made and sold, without help from others, 6,000 cotton candies and snow cones. When Carols husband became Dean of the College for Northwood Universitys Indiana Campus, she enrolled in the Universitys Hotel and Restaurant course at 52 years of age and was Valedictorian of her class. The two biggest thrills in Carols life were: Â Graduating at the head of her class at Northwood University, and going to Germany to dance with Marv Herzogs Polka Band. Carol leaves a $10,000 Memorial Scholarship, in perpetuity to students aspiring to attend Alma College. Carol is survived by: Â Husband, Gerard (Gerry) Lacey of Grand Blanc; Son Gerard Lacey II, daughter-in-law Char Lacey and grand-daughter Micaela, from Linden; and Son Scott Lacey, daughter-in-law Connie Lacey, grand-daughter Sarah and grand-son Matthew from Clarkston
