LAWTON, Bruce Peter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 13, 2025, in Durand, Michigan. Born on June 6, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, Bruce led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a profound commitment to his family and faith. After graduating from Flint Northern High School in 1957, Bruce began his career at General Motors in skilled trades as a tool and die maker for Chevrolet where he was also an active union representative. Bruce subsequently earned a Bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor College which furthered his career into Supervision with Oldsmobile and Buick. Having had a fulfilling career he retired in 2002. His industrious spirit and strong work ethic were evident in all aspects of his life, particularly in his passion for farming which brought him great joy and fulfillment. Bruce’s commitment to his Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout his life, shaping his values and the way he engaged with the world around him. He was a man who valued community and firmly believed in the importance of family. He is survived by his children, Robert B. (Linda) Lawton, John P. Lawton, Michael J. Lawton, James A. (Beth) Lawton, Kate Lawton, Kelli Minor and Karin (Steve) Hawkins; his legacy continues through his ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Mary Lynn) Lawton, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins who held him in the highest regard. Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Gardner Lawton and his sisters, Bethany Wiese and Ruth Lawton. Bruce Peter Lawton will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the love he shared and the values he instilled. His kindness, warmth, and dedication to his family and faith leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, April 26, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 Columbia Dr., Durand, MI 48429.
