Bruce Freathy

FREATHY, Bruce F. - age 90, of Grand Blanc, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, April 9 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton with Pastor Josh Gates officiating. Visitation will be held 2 PM - 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, April 10 at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Whaley Children's Center or Halsey United Methodist Church. Bruce was born June 9, 1927 in Flint, MI (parents Winifred Freathy and Frederick Freathy). Graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1947, after serving in the US Army as a Cryptologist in Germany. Graduated from Ferris College. Worked as an analyst for Chevrolet Assembly and GM Service Parts. Volunteered as an AARP Tax Aide for 25 years in Flint, and GB Senior Centers. Sixty-one year active member of Halsey UMC; enjoyed teaching Sunday school, being treasurer, playing on and managing the softball team, trustee and Sunday greeter. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing, and lunch with friends and family. Enjoyed the lake cottage. Treasured his friends and family. Played by the rules, and taught his family the virtues of hard work and honesty. He was a trusted friend and father; with a good sense of humor. Survived by his wife of 66 years Donna; sons Tim, Mark (Sara), and Richard. Brother Ralph Freathy. Grandchildren Nicholas Freathy (Evangeline), Emily Dimataris (Matthew), Haley Freathy, Kelly Penn (Nathan), four great grandchildren. Sister in law Audrey Thumser; and Daughter in-law Dotty Freathy. Nieces and nephews and many friends from church he considers family.
