Westrate, Brian E. - Age 84, Grand Blanc, died December 14, 2022. Funeral services will be held 1PM Sunday December 18 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, John Short (Brian's son-in-law) officiating. (A live stream of the funeral service will be available at Brian's page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. ) Visitation will be 12 Noon until the time of the service Sunday December 18 at the funeral home. Brian was born April 7, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Harris and Adelaide (Everhart) Westrate. He married Yvonne Guyette on April 25, 1964 in Clinton Township. They had four daughters. Brian served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. He retired from Seco/Sandvik, after 37 years.
In his younger years he played football and baseball which contributed to his love for watching sports on TV. After his military service, he worked for the U. S. Forest service. He loved gardening and working in his yard. He enjoyed taking hikes and going on family vacations. Brian was a gentle soft spoken man. He was a truly devoted man to God and his family. He was a letter writer, using it as a way to stay in touch with his girls when they lived out of state. Brian was without a doubt a great family man and a great Dad.
Surviving are: wife of 58 years Yvonne; four daughters, Bridget (James) Busch of Grand Blanc; Celeste (Dennis) Hayes of Fremont, Indiana; Sara (John) Short of Cedar Park, Texas; Laura (Brant) Geiman of Westminster, Maryland. His 9 grandchildren are Elizabeth Busch, Jennifer Busch, Courtney (Austin) Stanley, Abigail (Trayton) Nafziger, Trevor Short, Reily Short, Gracie Short, Cody Geiman, Cole Geiman; sister Kay Manser of Naples, Florida.
