Brenda Houk

December 1, 1945 — March 5, 2022

Swartz Creek

Brenda Sue Houk, 76, of Swartz Creek, Michigan went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022.  Funeral services will be held 1PM Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Tuesday and from 12 PM until the time of service Wednesday. Brenda was born December 1, 1945 to Charles E. Keene and Pearlie M. (Goodman) Keene in Whitewood, Virginia.  She was truly a coal miner's daughter.  The family would move to a farm in Ohio before the auto industry brought them to Flint, Michigan. It was in Flint where Brenda met and married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Houk. Together they would share adventures in Europe, including Germany, where Bill served in the U.S. Army. Two years later they would welcome their first of 4 children, completing their family back in Michigan. Brenda was a homemaker, mother, and grandma who greatly cherished her family.   Everyone looked forward to her potluck dishes, desserts, and holiday treats.  Brenda embraced the beauty of nature, and loved gardening, flowers, and feeding the birds (and squirrels). She enjoyed treasure hunting at second-hand stores, and restoring antique furniture. Brenda was also a member of Bristol Road Church of Christ, and loved going out to lunch with her “church ladies.” She was a ray of sunshine that loved all and greeted everyone with a hug.

Brenda leaves behind her husband Bill of almost 60 years, daughter Lisa (Chuck) Madden of Lapeer, Michigan, sons Eric (Lynette) Houk of Sanford, Michigan, Jonathan (Winter) Houk of Swartz Creek, Michigan, and Jason Houk of Swartz Creek, Michigan, grandchildren Dylan and Hannah Schmidt, Alexus and Ethan Houk, Jonny Houk, Brenden, Logan, and Aidan Houk, sister Mary (Bob) Braden of Flint, Michigan, sister-in-law LaVerne Keene of Flint, Michigan and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Pearlie Keene, brothers James, Harlan, and Chuck Keene, Larry Keen, and sister Lorene (Keene) Lee, nephews David Braden, Michael Keene Neil Walls and Jeff Walls, and great nephew, Brian Keene.
