GUTEK, Brenda Joyce - Age 72, of Flint., died Thursday December 9, 2021. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday December 14, at St. Roberts Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Father Jonathan Perrotta Celebrant. Burial to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6PM-8PM Monday with a 7PM Rosary being prayed at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Brenda was born July 24, 1949 in Flint, the daughter of Harold and Mona (Dunckel) Stratton. She married Gerald "Jerry" Gutek in Flint on June 1, 1973. Brenda worked for GM Chevy V8 for 30 years retiring in 1998. Brenda then worked and volunteered with her husband Jerry for many years at the Genesee County Humane Society. For 22 years, Brenda was the bright smiling face you would see when you walked in the front door. She always made sure to make everyone feel welcome and help them find their new furry friend. She was instrumental in the foster program, and would never turn down a bottle baby. She was an avid reader and collector of dolls. She enjoyed attending Rummage sales and going to the cottage on the lake in Farwell spending time with family and friends. No one could be more loyal and loving to her family than she was. Brenda had many pets in her lifetime. Currently, 8 cats, 5 dogs, 1 parrot, 1 cockatiel, 1 land tortoise, 15 year old turtle and 2 large fish aquariums. Surviving are: husband of 48 years, Jerry of Flint; daughters, Shawn Smith of Flint, Wendy Fay of Flint; step children, Christopher Gutek of Grand Rapids, Rachel Gutek of Los Angeles; grandson Eric Scott Gutek and mother Mona Drubin. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Bud (Theresa) Lane of Swartz Creek; sister-in-law, Marya (Alan Rose) Gutek; brother-in-law, Jon (Joanne) Gutek of Flushing; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Stratton and sister, Laurie Wilson and brother in law, Tom Wilson. Special thanks to grandson Brendan Gutek for his love and support.
