OFFRINK, Dr. Bonnie Juanita - passed away on November 24, 2010 in Olympia, Washington. She was born June 27, 1926, Ruth Juanita Masters, in Detroit, Michigan to Martha Hilda (Gordon) and Clarence Job Masters. Because she was a "bonnie lass', she was nicknamed Bonnie, later changed her name legally to Bonnie. She was preceded in death by her sister Mearle Masters Anderson and brother Gordon Melville Masters. She graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit, Magna Cum Laude, received her Bachelor of Arts in teaching, Masters in Guidance and Counseling, and PhD in Education Administration from the University Of Michigan in 1979 (dissertation was Educational Achievement in a Youth Detention Facility and Success in the Community). Dr. Offrink married Frederick James Offrink on April 17, 1944. They resided in White Lake, MI, Tyrone Township, MI and Holly Township (Lake Copneconic), Michigan, as well as, Sitka, Alaska, and Beverly, Kentucky. He preceded her in death, February 1978. In her lifetime Dr. Offrink worked as a teacher for the Flint School system in Flint, MI; an educational missionary (Guidance Counselor and Vice Principal) at Red Bird Mission, Beverly, Kentucky with her husband (also an educational missionary); was a counselor for the Boys Farm in Lake Fenton, MI; the Principal at Highland Academy in Highland Township, MI; an executive for the National Division of the Board of Global Ministries for the United Methodist Church national offices in Manhattan, New York; as the program director at the United Methodist Church in Shelton, WA; and a Child Protective Services Adoption Social Worker for the State of Washington, Dept Social/Health Services, Aberdeen, WA. She was also a licensed private counselor in the State of Washington. At Tyrone Presbyterian Church, Dr. Offrink was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, head of the Youth Group, and Deacon. She was active in 4-H in Michigan for many years and the president of the Linden Schools P.T.A. for several years. She also founded the Tyrone Hills Rough Riders horse club. Dr. Offrink was an avid reader and loved collecting old books and family antiques, but mostly collected troubled people that needed counseling. She worked to identify, rescue and improve delinquent teens - moving them from difficult situations to ones in which they could get help and become successful. She had a very strong Christian belief, with her life taking direction through the Holy Spirit. She always said that she raised eagles not homing pigeons. She was a strong leader, independent in thought and deed, with God's direction as her lead. Dr. Offrink is survived by her children Rev. James (Sally) Offrink, Flint, MI, Geri (Greg) Stubb, Aberdeen, WA, Mark Offrink, Venice Beach, CA, Susan (Loren) Kelsey, Waterford, MI, and Matthew (Dawn) Offrink, Anchorage, AK., and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Flint, Michigan date and time will be announced in Tuesday's edition and a Memorial Service in Aberdeen, Washington at Aberdeen Presbyterian Church at a later date.
