Bonnie L. Haffajee - of Fenton, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022 at the age of 72. Bonnie was born on March 29, 1950 in Flint, Michigan and resided in Fenton, Michigan.
Bonnie lived a rich and productive life, dedicated to helping others through her career in nursing and later in her role as teacher and then as school principal for 27 years at Randels Elementary in Carman-Ainsworth School District. She will always be remembered for her extraordinary work ethic, her open heart, and her desire to make her corner of the world more welcoming, kind, loving, and joyful. Bonnie received accolades and many awards over the years, including Carman-Ainsworth Teacher of the Year; finalist for Michigan Teacher of the Year, and the Golden Apple Award for educational leadership.
Bonnie cherished her family life and a lifetime of memories made. She was blessed daily by her special relationships with her six grandchildren. She had a vibrant social circle as well. Bonnie was known and loved for her hospitality; everyone was welcome at her Lake Fenton home. She had an ever-expanding dining room table that had a place for every guest. She was an excellent cook and gardener, and used those gifts to bless others. She loved her winter trips to Florida, family adventures, and annual reunions in Frankfort, Michigan. She was open to travel and exploring new places, but always loved her home sweet home.
Bonnie's strong Catholic faith gave her joy and peace. She lived a life of loving service to others and strove to be a person of peace, generosity, kindness, and love. She will be remembered for her commitment to building community and for pouring love into the next generation. The theme song for her Randels retirement celebration was fittingly: "Humble and Kind."
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Joyce Furse, and her loving husband of 42 years, Dr. Musa Haffajee.
She is survived by her devoted children, Ameena (Scott Meredith), and Adam (Nina) Haffajee; her beloved grandchildren, Marcella, Annie, Eriksen, Phillip, and Nicole, and Kai and Carson; her three sisters and their children (her cherished nieces and nephews and their children); and her dearest companion, Tom Capua.
Visitation will be at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton on Monday, July 18 from 1-3 PM and 4-7 PM. Bonnie was a grateful member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish in Goodrich, 7296 Gale Rd. where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19 at 1 PM.
