Billy H. Pettigrew, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 28. Bill just celebrated his 90th birthday in Austin, TX with his daughter, Jackie, and granddaughter, Jessica, and her husband Greg. Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy, who he lovingly called Dotto, on January 27, 1951. She preceded him in death in 2014. Bill was born in Pocahontas, AK on November 19, 1930 to Glenn Pettigrew and Linnie (Starnes) Pettigrew and grew up in Flint, MI. As a young boy, he worked after school at his parents' restaurant, Glenn's Cafe, where he developed his taste for pie. Bill and Dorothy had three children: Jill, Jackie, and Matt. Bill retired after a long career as plant security for Chevrolet and was also a respected hockey coach for 12 years at Carman High School. He and assistant coach Dave Aurand took the hockey team to regionals in 1978. In 2017, the team was inducted into the Carman High School Hall of Fame where Bill was surrounded by previous players who shared how much they admired him as a coach. Bill had a dry, sharp wit and always liked to look his best. Those who knew him well knew how particular he could be about his outfits. He was extremely generous, frequently tipping $20 even to those who weren't supposed to accept tips. He loved Westerns, living in the country, BBQ ribs, and visiting Jackie's family in Texas. He had two brothers, Glenn and Harry, and he and Harry talked on the phone every day in their later years. Bill was very proud of all three of his children and bragged about them always. Bill is survived by his beloved children Jill, who he was a champion for, and Jackie. He is also survived by grandchildren: Kara, Jessica Colt and Cort, and his great-grandchildren. His dear son, Matt, preceded him in death in 2013. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Michigan Chapter at https://www.alz.org/gmc. Due to Covid 19, there will be no service. Your condolences may be shared with the family at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
