MCLANAHAN, Beverly Wilford "Mike" - age 89, of Grand Blanc, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Tanglewood Assisted Living. A service honoring his life will be held 3 PM Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint with Major Jon Augenstein officiating. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 5-8 PM Wednesday and 1 PM until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Salvation Army - Flint Citadel Corps. Band and Songsters or the Burton Senior Center. Mike was born June 13, 1925 in Flint, the son of Beverly and Alma (Jacobson) McLanahan. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School and veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Barbara Jean Simpson on June 25, 1947 in Flint and she preceded him in death. He then married Shirley Somers on March 24, 1997 in Nevada. Mike retired from Consumers Energy after 37 years as a Crew Leader. Mike was a member of the Salvation Army Flint Citadel Church, Davison VFW, Burton Senior Center and Hurley Fitness. He enjoyed working out and loves sports especially golf. He has had two Hole-in-Ones. Mike was a speed walker and runner who participated in the Crim for several years. He also was an avid card player. Surviving are: wife, Shirley; two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Wood of Davison, Jayne (David) Bell of Flint; son, Bruce (Pam) McLanahan of Flint; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by son, Michal David McLanahan; one sister, Muriel Jerdan and one brother, Julian McLanahan.
