Beverly Bernard

December 14, 1931 — April 2, 2022

Flint

Beverly Claire Bernard was born in Windsor Ontario on December 14, 1931 to Anne and Jacob Greene.
She met and fell for “Ted”, Allen Bernard, on a blind date set up by a mutual friend and they were married on July 25th, 1954. The rest, as they say, was history.  She followed him to Kirksville, Missouri while he finished medical school.  They moved back to Flint, where Ted established his medical practice and Bev taught preschool.
After raising five children, Bev returned to college and received a Masters of Social Work.  She worked many years as a counselor, supporting a woman’s right to choose, and was proudly associated with and supported ASECT, NARAL and Planned Parenthood.
Bev and Ted enjoyed planting things together and their home always had a beautiful garden.  They shared a love of both wine and travel.   Bev continued to travel extensively culminating in her visit to Israel in 2010 to participate in her granddaughter's Bat Mitzvah.
Bev seriously enjoyed her yoga and playing Mahjong.  She also had a love of tennis and continued to play until she was nearly 80.  Tennis tournaments were always a high priority television occasion, especially the Grand Slam events.  Through all the challenges, trials and tribulations during the last years, she continued her staunch support of the arts, particularly The Flint Cultural Center, the FIA and FIM, and rarely missed a symphony performance.
Although the last many years were plagued with a multitude of issues, her loving caregivers helped to keep her as happy and comfortable as possible while attempting to maintain her class and dignity.  Those that were closest to her and were with her the most, understood that even with the issues she had developed, she strived to maintain her independence and her own identity.  Bev passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2022.
A few people made the extra effort to support and be there for Bev during the roughest times in the last years and truly made a difference in the quality of her life: most recent caregivers -  Julie, Michele and Crystol; friend - Judy; son - Jeffrey; granddaughter - Allie; daughter - Joni.  Bev is also survived by son - Gary (Melissa), daughter - Julie, grandchildren - Aaron, Elyse, Josh and Sam, great-grandchildren - Fiona, Lily and Hunter.
