Bert Loomis

LOOMIS, Bert A. - age 48, of Gaines, died Friday, August 14, 2015 at University Hospitals as a result of a motorcycle accident. Services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment will follow at Byron Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11 AM - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home where a Fraternal Order of Eagles memorial service will be held Monday evening. The family requests casual attire in honor of Bert. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gift of Life Michigan or the Durand Eagle Riders. Bert was born November 6, 1966 in Rochester. He married Julie Hlavacek on October 31, 1987. Bert retired from the U.S. Navy and was currently working at Kennedy Industries as a service technician. He was a member of the Durand Eagles and the American Legion in St. Helen. Bert loved motorcycles, snowmobiles, and riding his Can Am. He had a huge heart and loved helping others most of all. Bert was very active, always on the move. Surviving are: wife, Julie; step-father, William Denby; step-mother, Sandy Loomis; mother-in-law, Darlene Hlavacek; sister-in-law, Vicki Bessenbacher; siblings, Brian (Nicole) Loomis, David Loomis, Lynette Loomis, and Danny Denby; step-siblings, Deanna Silverthorn, Tracy Bott, David Denby and Dean (Carla) LaPlant; many nieces, and nephews.
