KOWALCYK, Benjamin - age 101, of Grand Blanc, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 16, 2022, days after his 101st birthday. Funeral Mass will be held 12 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 E Bristol Rd, Burton, MI 48529 with Fr. Bob McGraw celebrant. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10 AM - 12 PM Wednesday at the church. Ben was born January 11, 1921 in Flint, the son of Vincenty and Kathrine (Rapacz) Kowalcyk and was a graduate of Flint Northern High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a highly decorated Captain of the Army Air Corps. Ben earned a General Business Certification at Baker College after returning from the war. He married the love of his life MaryEllen Goyette on January 11, 1947 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2007. Ben retired in 1973 from General Motors as a Data Processor after 32 years of service. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he served as a lector for 40 years and enjoyed his church family. Surviving are: granddaughters, Kristie (Kowalcyk) and Fidel Carino, Nicole (Kowalcyk) Jones, Emily (Kowalcyk) and Michael Chuff; grandson, Benjamin Kowalcyk; great-grandchildren, Addisen (Carino) and Tyler Stewart, Madeline (Carino) and Andrew Dunkel, Kendall Carino and Jose Ibarra, Fidel V. Carino, Aidan and Olivia Jones, Dominic Chuff; great-great-granddaughter, Shae Stewart. Many nieces, nephews and other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by: son, Gerard V. Kowalcyk; wife, MaryEllen (Goyette) Kowalcyk; parents, Kathrine (Rapacz) & Vincenty Kowalcyk; sister and brother-in-law, Jennie (Kowalcyk) and Jack Prehoda; brother and sister-in-law, Alex & Alfreda Kowalcyk; precious niece, Sandra Kay.
