DAVIS, Basil William - Age 88, of Venice, FL, formerly of Flint died, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. Basil was born June 3, 1919 in Bay City the son of William and Mable (Koehler) Davis. He married Ann Doraleen Johnston on June 22, 1937 in Flint and she preceded him in death April 8, 2008 after 70 years of marriage. He had been a resident of Flint until 1974 when he and Ann moved to Venice, Fl living there until 2005. Basil served his country during World War II as a PFC, 9th Armored Division in the US Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, France, Belgium and Germany. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, 3 Battle Stars, a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1945. Basil retired from AC Spark Plug, as a Tool and Die Maker, in 1974 with 34 years of service. He was a life time member of the F.& A.M., Charles A. Durant Lodge. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason with Bay City Consistory. He was President of the Venice East Golf Course Association for 12 years and President of the AC Spark Plug Tool Room Retirees Association in Venice, FL. Basil liked to bowl, play cards, hunt, fish, golf and spend summers at Holiday Shores in Durand. Basil was also preceded in death by his parents; son, William "Billy" Davis; grandson, Jeff Phillips; twin sister, Beatrice Purcell; sister, Edna Peters Anderson.
