NEELY, Barbara Jean - Age 76, of Gaines, passed away peacefully at home with her husband, daughter, son, and granddaughter by her side. Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (Live Streaming of the service can be viewed on Barbara's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Genesee County Humane Society.
Barbara was born November 13, 1944 in Flint, the daughter of John and Freda (Komenda) Kondon. She was a 1962 graduate of Beecher High School. She married Raymond James Neely September 3, 1966 in Flint. She had resided in Gaines for the past 20 years coming from Swartz Creek. Barbara retired in 2002 from GM Truck and Bus. She was a member of U.A.W. Local 598. She became a mother for the first time in 1967. She was an amazing mom to her 3 children. In 2002 she became a Grammy to Grace Owen, that was her greatest joy in life. Grace and Grammy had an unbreakable bond. Family meant everything to Barbara. She always seen the good in everyone. Rather it be her family or friends that were in need, she would be the first person there no questions asked. She was a loving, selfless, strong, brave, and loyal women. She loved spending time on the lake fishing at their house up north with family and friends. She had a passion for cooking and feeding people. Barbara fought cancer twice, first in 2013 when she was diagnosed with Leukemia and that went into remission. In February 2020 she was faced with stage four colon cancer. She bravely fought it until the very end, never once complaining.
Surviving are: her husband, Raymond; son, Bob Neely; daughter, Debbie Neely; and granddaughter, Grace Owen; dearest friend, Edna Penington; many other friends and family; and her four legged companion, Juno. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Raymond John Neely; and brother, John Joseph Kondon. The family would like to thank the nurses from Mid Michigan Health Care and Hospice, especially Nicole who went above and beyond to care for our mom.
