Barbara P. Grooms

Barbara "Barb" P. Grooms, age 77, of Flint formerly of Swartz Creek, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. Visitation will be held at 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Home - Miller Road Chapel. Visitation will resume the following day at 10am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11am on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Homes- Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road in Swartz Creek. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Dennis Grooms, at Crestwood Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Barbara was born to the late Otto & Ruby Thompson in Flint, Michigan on November 13, 1947. She attended Swartz Creek High School, class of 1965. On March 29, 1969, she married Dennis G. Grooms in Swartz Creek. Barbara is a member of Swartz Creek Church of Christ; however these last several years she has been a "shut-in" due to health.

With Dennis, Barbara raised her children in Swartz Creek. She was known for having a beautiful home and equally beautiful flower gardens. She enjoyed shopping for home goods and was known to spend countless hours in her yard tending to her flowers. Holidays were always spent at her house as she was a wonderful hostess. When she wasn't tending to her home, she was a ferocious reader who loved British literature--especially Harry Potter. She loved movies, feeding her birds, and being in the water at every opportunity. Above all, Barbara loved her family and her faith. 

She is survived by her two children. Boyd (Jeana) Grooms and Chris (Doug) Carey; five grandchildren, Bronte (Sky Higgins) Grooms, Austen (Courtney Clark) Grooms, Jackson Carey, Olivia Carey, and Chase Grooms; sister, Nancy (Frank) Parkin; cousin, Charlene (Carl Cady) Pemberton and nephew, Darren Thompson. She is further survived by other dear family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Eldoss (Louella) Grooms; her husband Dennis, life partner, Larry Hipkins and nephew, David Thompson.
