Barbara Anne Burtch

Barbara Anne Burtch (Kuhn) was born on November 17, 1933, in Beaver Falls, PA. Her father was Samuel Kenneth Kuhn, and her mother was Norma Darrow Kuhn (Lindner). 

They soon moved to Michigan where Barbara spent most of her life. She graduated from Hartland High in 1952. She then enrolled at Michigan State University where she graduated in 1957 with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. 

In 1957 she married James E Burtch. They lived in many locations over the years including Washington DC, Fenton, Farwell, Clare, Albion, and St Johns. 

She was a lifelong teacher who taught at every grade level. Her favorite experience was in Adult Education where she would teach adults to read.

Her community activities included time on the Fenton Planning Committee, as a founding member of FOMA (Friends of Modern Art) at the Flint Institute of Art, and on the Albion Hospital Auxiliary Committee. She was also an active performing member of the Albion Community Theatre group. Later she served as the land division clerk for Tyrone Township.

One of her favorite pastimes was to spend summers with her family at Danish Landing in Grayling. She especially enjoyed this time when all her grandchildren were there!

She is survived by her brothers, Kenneth & Doug Kuhn; daughters, Susan Geisler (Robert) & Linda Burtch (Roger). Five grandchildren also survive her: Amelia Eldred, Peter & David Geisler, Jordan & Jenna Sherman.

Funeral service will take place 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Burial will follow in Hodge Cemetery, Hartland Township. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until the time of service Thursday, March 6. In lieu of flowers donations to Albion College Fritz Shurmur Center for Teacher Development are encouraged.
