Arthur Burns McKAY

McKAY, Arthur Burns, age 96, of Flint, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at home with his family close by his side. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Fenton Road Baptist Church, G-4386 Fenton Rd., Flint. Pastor Michael Stallard officiating. Visitation will be Friday 12-2PM and 5-7PM at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. and 10AM Saturday at the church until time of service. Memorial donations may be made to Fenton Road Baptist Church or Genesee County Humane Society. Arthur was born October 13, 1912 in Cobalt, Ontario, Canada. He came to Flint when he was 10 and spent most of his life in the area. He attended Flint Schools, worked in his father's grocery/butcher shop until he bought a grocery/butcher shop of his own in 1937. He went into the uniform business and opened his first shop in 1956, McKay's Uniforms, located on Ballenger Hwy and Flushing Rd. He operated uniform shops in Flint until moving to Florida in 1962 and opened shops in Port Charlotte and in Boca Raton, Florida. During the early years, Arthur also worked in the General Motors factories for 17 years. He married Vera Owen June 22, 1962 and she survives him. Also surviving are sons, Thomas McKay (Jennifer), Robert McKay (Joy); step-daughters, Gloria Owen, Connie Dennis; grandchildren, Elizabeth Batsios (Jim), Brian McKay (Danielle), Amy Fechter (Chris); step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Kirkland, Mark Monaghan (Carmen), Christine Monaghan, Andy Hobson (Holly), Jennifer Hertsenberg (Paul); great-grandchildren, Alex, Ian, Eleni Batsios, Reagan Fechter; step-great-grandchildren, Joslyn Kirkland, Brandy Hobson, Owen and Lola Hertsenberg, Patrick and Meghan Monaghan; and several nieces and nephews.
