Arthur Crampton, Jr.

April 18, 1930 — December 1, 2020

CRAMPTON, Arthur L. Jr. -- Born April 18, 1930 in Flint, MI, the son of Arthur L. and Mildred (Kilburn) Crampton. He was a graduate of Flint Northern High School, Class of 1948 and had attended Flint Junior College and GMI. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in December 1954.  He married Beverly Wood on January 16, 1955 and moved back to Flint. He was a salesman for 40 years starting with Coca Cola, moving on to automobiles, appliances and retiring from the wholesale paper business. As a child he enjoyed several summers at the YMCA Camp Copneconic as his father was the camp director. In 1939 he and his father became  members of the first YMCA Indian Guide Tribe in the state of Michigan. Arthur enjoyed traveling and he and Beverly visited all 48 of the contiguous United States. He also enjoyed reading, walking, old car events and owned a 1930 Model A Ford.  He was a member of Swartz Creek Lodge #458 F&M. He was a member of the Bay City Consistory. Survivors include daughters, Shirley (Charles) Rose of Bridgeport MI, Carol (Bill) Ashcroft of Kent City, MI; 2 granddaughters; 3 great granddaughters; and a great-grandson all of Lynchburg, VA; sister, Delores Henderson of Danville, IN. He was preceded in death by wife, Beverly in 2013; daughter, Donna Birdsall in 2016. Private services have been held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Court Street United Methodist Church or Y.M.C.A. Camp Copneconic.
