Arnold Jay Johnston

JOHNSTON, Arnold Jay - Age 87, of Linden, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, July 1, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Pastor Gary Griffin will officiate. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Red Cross in Howell. Arnold was born April 27, 1924 in Linden, the son of Max and Marian (Burnell) Johnston. He was a 1942 graduate of Hartland High School and attended the Michigan State College Agricultural Program. He was married to Bernice Grof on September 22, 1945. Mr. Johnston was a fourth generation farmer. He loved farming and had received the Outstanding Farmer of the Year award. He served on the Hartland School Board for 13 years, Deerfield Township Board of Review and Deerfield Cemetery Board. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are: wife, Bernice; children, Garry and wife Maria Johnston, Kathy and husband Jerry Wagner; grandchildren, Nanette, Karri, Heidi, Greg, Amy and Bryan; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bontekoe; many nieces and nephews.
