Arne Mathias JOKINEN

JOKINEN, Arne Mathias - age 80, of Roscommon and Lennon, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his residence in Roscommon. Services will be held 1 PM Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek wit Pastor Ron Edward Emmerling officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-2 and 4-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Jokinen was born March 31, 1929 in Chatham, MI, the son of Walter Rickard and Laimi Matilda (Lammi) Jokinen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and U.S. Air Force serving during World War II and Korea. Mr. Jokinen married Joan E. Bard on April 16, 1949 and she preceded him in death on January 11, 1997. Mr. Jokinen retired from General Motors as a Tool and Die Machinist after 37 years of service. He was a volunteer fireman and Assistant Fire Chief of Venice Township for 29 years. He was a past Institutional Representative for the Boy Scouts for 15 years and a past member of the Swartz Creek Community Squares Square Dancing Club. Mr. Jokinen was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1292 and a life member of the American Legion. Surviving are: two sons, Larry S. Jokinen and wife Sue of Stanly, Idaho, Ross W. Jokinen and wife, Terry of Lennon; four grandchildren, Adam, Lathan, Lora and Mariah; special friends, Bill and Elaine Carpenter and Bev Brinkman; many nieces and nephews also survive. He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Randall, brother Martti, four sisters, Bertha, Effie, Viola and his twin, Aune.
