Arlowa Himm

March 19, 1930 — April 23, 2021

Arlowa S. Himm, of Linden, formally of Chesaning, died on Friday, April 23. Arlowa was born in Owosso, Michigan, on March 19, 1930. She was the oldest of three children born to DeVere and Laura (Korf) Crickmore. Arlowa was baptized on April 19, 1930 at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church in Owosso.  She was also confirmed at Salem on May 16, 1943.

On September 9, 1950, Arlowa married Marvin Himm at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church in Owosso, Michigan.  The Lord blessed their union with 5 children - Gary, Linda, Dennis, Janet, and David.

While still a child, Arlowa helped run her father’s store in Easton, MI.  Arlowa graduated from Chesaning High School in 1947 and was hired to do bookwork at McDonald Dairy in Chesaning until she married Marv after he proudly served in the US Army.  While raising 5 children, she handled all the bookwork for Marv’s Standard Oil business.  She was elected and re-elected many times as Chesaning’s Township Clerk, serving in that position for 33+ years until she retired and moved to a home on Lobdell Lake.  Her life was filled with hospital visitations with Marv’s many surgeries.  She was an avid Bridge player and loved playing all kind of card games with relatives and friends.  Her home was always open for relatives and friends to stop by or stay overnight.

She took pride in her yard lavished with flowers, especially geraniums - whether it was on Brady Street in Chesaning or Haviland Beach Drive in Linden. She and Marv enjoyed bowling, family vacations, traveling to see family, attending various World Fairs and Expos, and were regulars at travelogues. They were blessed with the ability and opportunities to travel at will, often without extensive planning, with Al and Barb Crickmore as their regular travel partners, or with any other friends or family members.

Arlowa is best known by her children for keeping a diary since childhood.  She would quiz the family to see if they knew “what happened on this day, four years ago?”  Arlowa spent the last years of her life living at Caretel Inns (now Symphony) of Linden.

Over her lifetime, Arlowa was an active and faithful member at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church in Owosso, Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Chesaning, and Gloria Dei Ev. Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc.  Marvin & Arlowa were generous in their support of the gospel ministry both locally and synodically.

Arlowa was 91-years old when she was called to her eternal home on Friday, April 23, at Symphony Inns of Linden. Like Marv, Arlowa donated her body to the University of Michigan for medical research.

Preceding Arlowa in death were her parents, DeVere and Laura Crickmore, and her husband, Marvin. She is survived by her five children; Gary and Sherry Himm of Largo, FL, Linda (Oz) and Tony Pace of Fort Mill, SC; Dennis and Kay Himm of Grand Blanc, MI, Janet and James Cady of Fenton, MI, and David and Chris Himm of Germantown, WI; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews, along with her two brothers, Alfred and Robert Crickmore.
