ETTINGER, Dr. Anna M. "Annie" - Age 98, of Fenton, passed away July 24, 2024. Anna was born November 4, 1925 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Dawson) Conway. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from University of Wisconsin, Master's Degree from St. Louis University and a PhD from University of Illinois in the field of human anatomy. She married Dr. Ralph Ettinger from Fenton MI. on April 26, 1974 in Janesville, WI; he preceded her in death on May 17, 1987. Annie was a Professor at the University of Detroit and Wayne State University for over 50 years. She taught numerous Dentist and Medical Doctors in the Southeast Michigan area. Education was her passion, and she was still teaching Gross Anatomy labs at Wayne State, until 2020. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. She is survived by four stepchildren (Judy Brown, Don Ettinger, Margaret Bailey and Pamela Charlick), sister-in-law Helen Conway as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Her parents; brothers, James, Martin and Francis Conway; sisters, Catherine Grebe and Margaret Disch also preceded her in death.
Annie could be summed up as a small woman with a very large personality. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places and experiences. During the course of her life, she traveled to many areas in the world where she could enjoy hiking and horseback riding. Annie was a very generous person who believed that education was the great opportunity for someone to enrich and improve their life. Over the years she gifted funds to whomever needed help to complete their education goals. Her generosity could also be seen in the time she spent on worthy causes like O.A.T.S where she walked horses for disabled children on a weekly basis. Her love of golf is what lead to her marriage as her husband Ralph and she met on the golf course. She even was playing golf over the last few years while in her 90’s.
