Ann Stella PUCILOWSKI

December 30, 1913 — April 7, 2012

PUCILOWSKI, Ann Stella (Sopko) 98, (Dec 30, 1913 Apr 7, 2012) passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Swartz Creek on Holy Saturday. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St Mary's Queen of Angels, 4413 Morrish Rd, Swartz Creek. Fr. Steve Mattson, celebrant. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Swartz Creek to follow. Visitation will be held Tuesday 6:00PM -9:00PM and Wednesday 2:00PM -9:00PM at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Rd Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek, with a 7:00PM Rosary and visitation also at the church one hour prior to service Thurs at the church. In memory of Ann, donations can be made to the Powers Relocation Campaign or St Mary's Church. Ann was born in Lafferty, Ohio, the daughter of John and Anna (Bukovinsky) Sopko, who were immigrants from Slovakia. She came to Michigan in 1926 and graduated from Swartz Creek High School (Mary Crapo) in 1932. Ann began working for Buick Motor Division in 1935. For a little lady, she was strong, determined and hard working. She married Robert (Bob) Stanley Pucilowski Sept 9, 1950 at the old St Mary's Catholic Church on Miller Rd in Swartz Creek. They made their home in northwest Flint on E. Ridgeway and W. Gracelawn Avenues. Their only child was born a few years later, when Ann was almost 40 years old. Ann retired from GM in 1972, with 37 years of service. She and Bob then moved back to Swartz Creek. Bob predeceased her in 1981. Ann lived independently after his death, until moving to Abbey Park in Grand Blanc when she was 90. She then lived for the last 1 years in her daughter's home. Ann always put everyone else first, and rejoiced with the love of God, family and friends. She was a member of Swartz Creek St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altar Society and 50 & over Group, past Choir member, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Slovak Union, and UAW Local 599. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and on pilgrimages to Canada. She wsa an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Ann is survived by her daughter and son in law, Carol Ann and Karl Kusky, who deeply loved and cherished her. Beloved Granddaughter Kira Ann Kusky of Rochester, Brothers Paul Sopko of Flushing and Francis (Lawanda) Sopko of Swartz Creek, Sister in laws Carole Martin of Missouri, and Shirley Pucilowski of Flint. She had 56 nieces and nephews and many Godchildren. Special friends Amanda, Anne, Diane, Joanne, Lisa, Ruby, and Sue. She had many relatives in Slovakia. Ann was predeceased by her parents, husband, siblings and their spouses - Margaret & Tony Hurbis, Mary and Herman Jewell, John & Doris Sopko, Andrew (Butch) Sopko, Katherine and Jack Karrer, Mary Sopko, and three infant siblings, in laws Pauline and Walter Dziwura, Laurence and Jeanette Pucilowski, Louise and Charlie Grignani, and Donald Pucilowski, and special friend Joe Stefik. Very special thanks to Fr. Steve Mattson, Fr. Dan Kogut, Carl and Rosalie Pfeiffer, Dr. Smothers and staff, Dr. Chambers and staff, Dr. Pounder and staff, Abbey Park, McLaren Visiting Nurses, and the Avalon Hospice staff who so awesomely cared for her this last month.
