Alvis Whitten

WHITTEN, Alvis Doran - Age 88, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, September 23, 2016. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Sharp Funeral Home Miller Road Chapel 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Rev. Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Visitation will be held 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Alvis was born December 31, 1927 in Monette, AR. the son of Hubert and Mary (Hazelwood) Whitten. He served in the U.S. Army. Alvis married Mary Caltrider on August 6, 1966 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a very active member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church and their men's group. Alvis was employed as an Appraiser for the City of Flint for 24 years retiring in 1987. He enjoyed golfing , bowling, gardening and supporting any and all professional and College sport teams in Michigan. Alvis is survived by his daughter, Debra Anne (Joseph) Pakkala; two grandchildren, Melissa (Keith) Hustak and Lindsey (Zach) Moore; five great- grand children, Avery, Sadie, Conlan, Hadley and Asher; siblings, Velma Hout, and Nadine (Gene) Bolinger; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; on July 20, 2016. Sister, Lorene Anderson; and brother, Marvin Whitten.
