Alois Hopak

April 17, 1937 — November 21, 2015

HOPAK, Alois "Al" - Age 78, of Flint with the past 6 years in Flushing, passed away November 21, 2015. A memorial service will be held 1PM Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor William Jentzen officiating. Visitation will be held 11AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the family. Alois was born in Flint, Michigan on April 17, 1937 the eldest son of the late Stanley and Matilda (Pagach) Hopak. He remained in the Flint area most of his life where he worked from a young age to help with the family as his father passed away young. He has held many jobs the first being in the meat department at Frank's Westside. Most prominent was his teaching career at the Genesee Area Skill Center, where he started teaching in 1969 when it first opened teaching small appliance repair and electronics. He decided it was time to retire from teaching when he started getting children of former students and focus on the family business. Hopak TV opened its doors in 1969 and served the Flint area proudly for almost 40 years where he taught his family the value of pride in working and serving the community. Al was always there helping run neighborhood block parties, making pasties at local churches, swiss steak dinners at Westminster, filling a spare seat in a fishing boat. He was very hands on making BBQ grills, wood working projects of all kinds and home improvements. Al is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy; children, Mina Hopak of Oklahoma, Marcia Judson of Flint, Thomas (Trisha) Hopak of Durand, Todd (Lisa) Hopak of Birch Run, Terry (Cindy) Hutchinson of Gaines, Charlene of Flint, Sam (Shelli) Hutchinson of Seattle, Cindy (Nick) Schlachter of Chesaning; several grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother Stanley (Renee) Hopak; sister in law Charlene of Florida. He was also preceded in death by son, Timothy (Tim) Hopak; brother Frank Hopak; sister, Mary; sister in law Sharon and many close friends.
