Alma Dora LAWRENCE

LAWRENCE, Alma Dora - age 89, of Gaines, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Durand Convalescent Center. Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor David Wichert officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-9 Pm Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Gaines United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lawrence was born April 5, 1921 in Flint, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Alarie) LaLonde and graduated from Gaines as valedictorian. She married George T. Lawrence on January 18, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2008. Mrs. Lawrence was co-owner and operator of Mikan Construction Company and also worked as the assistant to Dr. R.W. Jones in Durand. She was the past Worthy Matron of Durand O.E.S. #244 and past president of the Shiawassee County Association of Eastern Star. Surviving are: 5 children, Linda and husband Robert Philleo of Hobe Sound, FL, Mary Ann and husband Roger Eastman of Gaines, Georgina and husband Forest Kallin of Gaines, Thomas and wife Maralyn Lawrence of Denver, CO, Richard and wife Mary Lawrence of Mohave, AZ;10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great-great granddaughter; five siblings, Donna June McGee, Betty Nixon, Henry (Donna) LaLonde, Maxine (Jerry) Cole, Blanche LaLonde; many nieces and nephews also survive. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie LaLonde. The family extends a special thank you to the staff and residents of the Durand Senior Center.
