Knapko, Alice B. -- Age 98, of Flint, died April 6, 2020. Private burial has been held at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Tuesday August 4 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 E. Bristol Rd., Burton. Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint.
Alice B. Knapko was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on March 14, 1922, the daughter of the late Clarence and Sylvia Bintz. She met her husband, William Knapko, at a USO dance at Camp Drum, New York and they were later married on January 10, 1944 in Watertown, New York. Alice was a member of Holy Redeemer Church and a member of the Women's Altar Society. She was "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII years in New York. Alice retired from GM Ternstead in Flint, Michigan after 24 years of service. After retirement, she and William spent 20 yrs. retiring to Florida throughout the Michigan winters.
She loved playing euchre with friends, bingo, bowling, family gatherings and was active within the church community. Alice took pride in her appearance and always presented with beautifully manicured nails and styled hair, her favorite style being that of a red Beehive. She was very witty and had a great sense of humor. She is survived by 4 children; Ron and his current significant other Elinor Jensen and his late wife, Marcia Knapko; Sherry and husband Joe, Shangle; Debbie Knapko and husband, Steve Calhoun; Robin Knapko and significant other, Joey Smithingell; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband.
