Adelheid Ursula Gunther

GUNTHER, Adelheid Ursula (Riske): age 69 of Flint passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Oliver Woods Assisted Living and Memory Care in Owosso. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Living Word Church of God, 6325 Calkins Rd., Flint Township, MI, with Pastor Tim McKenzie officiating. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the service time. 

Adelheid was born January 6, 1954, in Grapterhausen, Germany, to Daniel and Ida (Rode) Riske.  She was united in marriage to Erard Gunther on August 11, 1973.  Together they owned and operated Gunther’s Sale and Service and Gunther’s Locksmith for over 35 years in Flint.  In her early-40’s she attended Mott Community College to pursue her associate degree in accounting, graduating with honors.  She worked for H & R Block and American Associates for well over 10 years.  Adelheid loved numbers and bookkeeping but more than that, she loved being at Erard’s side.  Where he was, she wasn’t far away.  They spent their 48 years together working side by side as a team.

Adelheid loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.  You could always find her in the rocking chair holding one of her beloved grandkids or making a meal or snack for whomever asked, no matter the time.  She enjoyed spending time with the grandkids on their annual camping trip to Warner Memorial Camp.  With a true servant’s heart, she gave all of herself to her family, never asking for anything in return.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Ronald (Liane) Gunther, Martin (Melissa) Gunther, Andy Gunther and grandchildren, Alexis, Katelyn, Ethan, Alaina, Levi and Amrae; sister, Edel (Ronald) Johnson; sister-in-law, Michelle Riske, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Erard Gunther; parents, Daniel and Ida Riske; brother, Erich Riske.
