Abner Gardner

GARDNER, Abner Aaron - Age 90, of Swartz Creek, died February 23, 2015. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, with Pastor Kevin Harbin officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday. Burial will be 2:30 PM Thursday at Flushing Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Abner was born August 1, 1924 in Flushing, the son of Ira and Violet (Johnson) Gardner. He was married to Dorothy Nimphie on October 21, 1944; she preceded him in death on May 31, 2000. Mr. Gardner was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He retired from Buick in 1989, where he was an electrician for 41 years. Abner was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, Swartz Creek Kiwanis Club, Shriners Bay City Consistory and Masonic Lodge #490, where he was past master. He also owned and operated Gardner Homes in Swartz Creek and was a building inspector in Swartz Creek for several years. Surviving are: children, James (Diane) Gardner of Ohio, Denise (Ben) Staley of Kansas, Kimberly (Christopher) Kubik of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Amy Peiffer, Jennifer Gardner, Ryan Staley, Rachelle Staley, Mellay Gardner, Jillian Kubik and Christopher Kubik; great-grandchildren, Brian, Grace, Elijah and Ean. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary; sister, Darlene; brother, Maynard. The family would like to give special thanks to Woodhaven and McLaren Hospice for their loving and exceptional care.
