John Karnes

Karnes, John H. "Jack" - Age 92, of Flint, died May 10, 2018. Private services will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Jack was born April 15, 1926 in Gaylord the son of Frank and Grace (Ocam) Karnes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in WWII. He married Eleanor Gelerak on July 11, 1953 in Flint; she preceded him in death September 13, 2017. He retired from the Flint Journal as a printer. Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. He had a fantastic sense of humor. Surviving are: nephew Lawrence Okopien of Rexton, MI; great-nephews, Steve (Vicki) Okopien of Birch Run, Scott (Tiffany) Okopien of Fenton; great-niece Kristin (Jeff) Wagenmaker of Twin Lake, MI; five great-great nephews and great-great niece, Alex, Joseph, Austin, Nick, Alexis, Jackson; Jack's family extends a special thank you to Independence Village of Frankenmuth for their incredible care for Jack, Becky Nichols of Michigan Premier Hospice, and Tim and Cathy Jacobs.
