Christopher Matus

MATUS, Christopher David - Age; 46 of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday April 1, 2020. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek. Christopher was born April 17, 1973 in Philadelphia, PA the son of Ronald Paul and Susan Lorriane (Pagano) Matus. Christopher met his wife Cathy, when he was 15 year old. He later moved to Michigan in 1998 and they married in 2001. On that day, Chris not only became a husband but a step father to Chelsea and Adam as well. He loved them as his own and they were not immune to his jokes and embarrassment. Christopher worked as an EMT both in Pennsylvania and Michigan for many years. He had recently been working as a Medical Examiner Investigator and at Milano’s Pizza. He loved what he did and often times joked that he had "job security." When he was not working, Chris loved to hang out with his friends and family. He enjoyed watching his daughter, Kimberlee, in the Swartz Creek Marching Band and giving her a hard time when it came to her boyfriends. He was so proud of his daughter for making the varsity bowling team and working hard to make herself a better bowler. He also had 2 nieces, Calli and Casey and a nephew, Caleb, that were very special to him. He loved playing games, whether it be poker for jellybeans or three handed euchre or spoons, Chris was always ready to amuse us with his wit and jokes. When he was able, Chris enjoyed playing golf with his brother in law John, and of course drinking a few beers along the way. He especially enjoyed hanging out and talking daily with his best friend and ‘Michigan’ brother, Dave Anter. Christopher’s laugh was big and contagious and our lives are better because he was in it. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cathy; children, Chelsea Schmidt, Adam Oginsky and Kimberlee Matus; parents, Ron (Mary) Matus and Susan (Dave) Stewart; mother-in-law, Barb Schmidt; sister, Rachel (Andrew) Lynn; brother, Ben Matus. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Suzie (John) Carter; nephew, Caleb Carter and nieces, Calli and Casey Carter. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Ascension Genesys for the great dedication, love and care they showed to him and us through this difficult time. Special Thank you to all his Pennsylvania family, Milano's family, Preferred family, EMT's, Paramedics, Police and the Medical Examiner and staff for all of the support given to him throughout the many years.
